At a glance

IT staff augmentation is adding outside engineers to your own team, where they join your standups, work in your repositories and take direction from your leads. It suits companies with engineering leadership and a working process but not enough people. Tag4 Technology Solutions supplies vetted developers, QA, DevOps and Dynamics 365 specialists, or a dedicated team, working hours that overlap with yours.

Our IT staff augmentation services suit companies that already have engineering leadership and a working process but not enough hands. You might have a roadmap slipping by a quarter, a Dynamics 365 rollout that needs an extra developer for six months, or a senior engineer leaving with no replacement in sight. Instead of handing us a project, you add our people to your team. They join your standups, work in your repositories and take direction from your leads. If you need more than one or two people, we can form a dedicated development team with its own tech lead.

Augmentation goes wrong in a few recognizable ways. Resumes look strong but the person struggles in your codebase, and you find out two months in. The engineer is technically fine but works hours that barely overlap with yours, so every question costs a day. Vendors swap people without warning and knowledge leaves with them. Sometimes the client is also to blame: nobody is assigned to onboard the new developer, access takes three weeks, and the first month is wasted.

We vet for the work you actually have. Candidates go through technical interviews focused on your stack and a practical exercise, and you interview the shortlist yourself before anyone starts. Our engineers work with full overlap with East Coast and Central hours and most of the Pacific day. Onboarding follows a shared checklist covering accounts, environments, codebase walkthroughs and a small first task, so the first pull request usually lands in week one. If someone isn't the right fit, tell us. We find a replacement and run a handover overlap so context isn't lost, and the specific terms are written into the contract before anyone starts.

For common skills like React, .NET or Python, profiles are usually ready within 1–2 weeks. Niche roles can take longer. Most engagements run at least three months, since a developer needs a few weeks to reach full speed in a new codebase.

What we do

Staff Augmentation services

01

Individual engineers

Front-end, back-end, full-stack and mobile developers who slot into your existing team and follow your coding standards and review process.

02

Dedicated development teams

A small team with a tech lead, developers and QA that works exclusively on your product, with you setting priorities and us handling people management.

03

Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform specialists

Business Central AL developers, Finance & Operations X++ developers, CRM consultants and Power Apps builders for implementations or ongoing support.

04

QA and test automation engineers

Manual testers and automation engineers who build Playwright or Cypress suites and bring release discipline to teams that ship without enough testing.

05

DevOps and cloud engineers

Engineers who take over pipelines, Terraform and cloud operations, often while your developers focus on product work.

06

Data and AI engineers

Data engineers for pipelines and warehouses, and engineers experienced with LLM applications, for teams starting AI work without in-house specialists.

How we work

What you can expect from us

You interview before anyone starts

We send a short, screened list rather than a pile of resumes. You meet the candidates, and nobody joins your team without your approval.

Real working-hours overlap

Engineers come from the office in or nearest your time zone, so they are online during your meetings, code reviews and production issues, not answering overnight.

Onboarding treated as a deliverable

We share an onboarding checklist before day one and chase access requests with you, so paid time goes into your product rather than waiting on permissions.

Continuity you can plan around

We avoid rotating people off your account. When a change is unavoidable, the replacement overlaps with the outgoing engineer to carry context across.

Process

From first call to production

  1. Discovery

A few working sessions to pin down goals, users, constraints and what "done" means. You get a written scope and estimate.

  2. Design

Architecture, data model and clickable UI before heavy coding starts, so surprises show up early and cheaply.

  3. Build

Two-week sprints with a demo at the end of each one. You see working software, not status reports.

  4. Launch

Automated tests, staged rollout, monitoring and a rollback plan. Go-live should be boring.

  5. Support

Bug fixes, updates and new features on a monthly plan, or a clean handover to your team.

FAQ

Staff Augmentation: common questions

What is the difference between staff augmentation and outsourcing a project?

With staff augmentation, you manage the engineers and own delivery, and we supply and support the people. With project outsourcing, we own the scope, timeline and delivery. Augmentation fits when you have strong internal leadership and need capacity, while a project suits well-defined work you would rather hand off.

How quickly can a developer start?

For common stacks, we typically share profiles within 1–2 weeks, and a developer can start shortly after you approve. Specialized roles such as senior Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations developers can take longer. Starting on time also depends on how fast your team can provide accounts and access.

What happens if a developer is not a good fit?

Tell us early, and we'll start finding a replacement right away. We arrange a handover overlap where possible so the new engineer picks up context instead of starting cold. The trial period and replacement terms are set out in the contract before the engagement begins.

Who owns the code our augmented engineers write?

You do. Our contracts assign intellectual property for work done on your behalf to you, and engineers work in your repositories under your accounts. We also sign your NDA if you have one.

Is there a minimum engagement length?

We recommend at least three months, because it takes a few weeks for any engineer to learn a new codebase well. Shorter engagements are possible for well-scoped tasks, but the ramp-up cost becomes a bigger share of what you pay.

Do augmented engineers work our hours?

Yes. We staff from the office that matches your time zone: New York or Toronto for Eastern Time, Chicago or Dallas for Central Time, and Sydney or Dubai for Australia and the Gulf. Engineers attend your standups and planning meetings like anyone else on the team.

Planning a staff augmentation project?

Tell us what you are trying to build. An engineer reads every message and replies personally. No sales sequences, no pressure.
