At a glance

Logistics software development builds the dispatch boards, tracking portals, warehouse apps and EDI connections that off-the-shelf TMS and WMS products don't cover. Carriers, brokers, 3PLs and shippers need it when dispatchers juggle several screens and EDI fails quietly. Tag4 Technology Solutions builds these tools and integrates them with platforms like McLeod, MercuryGate and Manhattan, with retries and alerts on every feed.

Logistics runs on exceptions. The load that's late, the driver who's out of hours, the pallet that's in the wrong bay, the customer who wants an ETA right now. Off-the-shelf TMS and WMS products handle the standard flow well enough. What they don't handle is the way your operation is different from everyone else's, and that's usually where margin is made or lost.

As a logistics software development company, we build the tools that fill those gaps. That might be a dispatch board where your team sees every truck, driver and load on one map. It might be a customer portal with live tracking pulled from ELDs and carrier APIs. It might be EDI that finally processes 204s, 214s and 210s without someone re-keying them. We also extend and integrate existing platforms like McLeod, MercuryGate or Manhattan rather than replacing them when replacement doesn't pay off.

Integration is where logistics projects go wrong. You're dealing with trading partners on X12 EDI, carriers with REST APIs of varying quality, telematics providers, load boards and accounting software. Any of them can send bad data or go down at 2 a.m. We build every connection with validation, retries, dead-letter queues and alerts, so a broken feed shows up as a clear error for your team instead of a missing load discovered by an angry customer.

The problems

What gets in the way

No single view of the network

Dispatchers switch between the TMS, the ELD portal, email and phone calls to figure out where a load is. Visibility depends on who picks up.

EDI that breaks quietly

Rejected 204s, missing 214 status updates and mismatched 210 invoices pile up until a customer complains or a payment gets held.

Customers asking "where's my shipment?"

Your team spends hours a day answering tracking emails and calls that a good portal could handle on its own.

Warehouse accuracy slipping

Paper pick lists, manual cycle counts and slow receiving lead to mispicks, lost inventory and chargebacks from retail customers.

Billing and settlement delays

Proof of delivery, accessorials and carrier pay are reconciled by hand. Cash sits in limbo for weeks after the freight has moved.

What we build

Logistics software we deliver

01

Custom TMS modules

Load planning, rating, carrier selection and settlement tools built around your lanes and customers, standalone or alongside your current TMS.

02

Dispatch and fleet visibility

Live maps of trucks, drivers and loads with hours-of-service data from Samsara, Motive or other ELD providers, plus exception alerts.

03

Shipment tracking portals

Customer-facing portals with live status, ETAs, documents and proof of delivery, so your customers stop emailing for updates.

04

EDI and API integration

X12 EDI (204, 210, 214, 940, 945, 856) and REST integrations with shippers, carriers and load boards, with monitoring and automatic retries.

05

Warehouse apps and WMS integration

Mobile scanning apps for receiving, putaway, picking and cycle counts, connected to your WMS or a lightweight custom one.

06

Driver mobile apps

Apps for load details, document capture, e-signatures and status updates that work offline on the road and sync when signal returns.

FAQ

Logistics software: common questions

Should we build a TMS or buy one?

Buy one for the core, in most cases. Build around it where your process is different, such as customer portals, special rating logic or integrations your vendor doesn't support. A fully custom TMS only makes sense when your operation truly doesn't fit any product on the market.

Can you integrate with our ELD and telematics provider?

Yes. Samsara, Motive, Geotab and most other major providers offer APIs for location, hours of service and vehicle data. We pull that into your dispatch tools and customer portals and handle the rate limits and gaps in their data.

Do you handle EDI setup with trading partners?

Yes. We build the mapping and processing, work through partner testing, and set up monitoring for failed transactions. We can work with your existing VAN or EDI provider or set up direct AS2 connections.

How long does a tracking portal take?

A customer tracking portal on top of existing data usually takes 2–4 months. Timelines grow when tracking data is spread across many carriers with inconsistent APIs, so we map your data sources before quoting.
