At a glance
Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (sold as Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management) is Microsoft's ERP for companies with several legal entities, multiple countries, manufacturing and complex warehousing. Implementing it means solution design, configuration, X++ extensions, integrations and data migration. Tag4 Technology Solutions provides functional and technical consultants for new rollouts and AX 2012 upgrades.

Finance and Operations (still called F&O by most people, even though Microsoft now sells it as Dynamics 365 Finance and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management) is built for companies with real operational weight: several legal entities, multiple countries and currencies, discrete or process manufacturing, and warehouses running on mobile devices. Our Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations consultants work with CFOs, operations leaders and IT teams who need one system to carry all of that.
Big F&O projects tend to go sideways in the same places. The design phase produces hundreds of pages nobody reads. Customizations pile up because every department asks for its old screens back. Integration and performance testing get squeezed into the last few weeks. We keep the solution design short and tied to business scenarios you can test. Every gap goes through a fit-gap review where a process change, standard configuration or ISV module gets considered before X++. And integration testing starts as soon as the first data entities are built.
AX 2012 customers carry a specific risk. Extended support for AX 2012 R3 ended in January 2023, so those systems no longer get security fixes. Moving to F&O is a reimplementation more than an upgrade: data can be brought across with Microsoft's upgrade tooling, but overlayered code has to be rewritten as extensions. We inventory your AX modifications early, and a surprising share turn out to be covered by standard features.
Realistic timelines run 9 to 18 months for a first rollout, often split by entity or region. AX upgrades land in a similar range, depending on how much custom code comes along.
What we do
Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations services
Finance implementation
General ledger, AP, AR, fixed assets, budgeting, consolidations, intercompany and tax setup across multiple legal entities and currencies.
Supply Chain Management
Procurement, inventory, warehouse management with the mobile app, transportation, production control and master planning.
AX 2012 to F&O upgrades
Code inventory, data upgrade, rewriting overlayered customizations as extensions and a staged cutover plan that protects month-end.
X++ development
Extensions, Chain of Command, custom data entities, batch jobs and SSRS or Electronic Reporting formats, all built in Visual Studio and source-controlled in Azure DevOps.
Integrations
Data management framework imports, OData and custom services, business events, dual-write to Dataverse, and middleware through Azure Logic Apps and Service Bus.
Environment and release management
Environment setup in LCS or the Power Platform admin center, build pipelines, deployable packages and a schedule for Microsoft's service updates.
Test automation
Regression suites with RSAT and Task Recorder so every service update and code release gets tested the same way, whoever happens to be free that week.
Performance tuning
Slow batch jobs, blocking queries and badly indexed custom tables found through trace parsing and query analysis, then fixed.
How we work
What you can expect from us
Design you can test
We write the solution design as business scenarios (order to cash, procure to pay, plan to produce), so your users can test exactly what was agreed.
A cost on every gap
Each customization request gets an estimate for build and long-term maintenance. Seeing both numbers ends a lot of "just add a field" debates.
Integration testing early
Integrations are where F&O timelines slip. We stand them up against test environments in the first build sprints, not after functional sign-off.
Regression tests from day one
Microsoft updates F&O several times a year. An automated regression suite built during the project keeps those updates from becoming mini-projects.

Process
From first call to production
Discovery
A few working sessions to pin down goals, users, constraints and what "done" means. You get a written scope and estimate.
Design
Architecture, data model and clickable UI before heavy coding starts, so surprises show up early and cheaply.
Build
Two-week sprints with a demo at the end of each one. You see working software, not status reports.
Launch
Automated tests, staged rollout, monitoring and a rollback plan. Go-live should be boring.
Support
Bug fixes, updates and new features on a monthly plan, or a clean handover to your team.
FAQ
Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations: common questions
Why is Finance and Operations so much more expensive than Business Central?
Both licensing and implementation cost more. Microsoft sets a minimum number of full user licenses for Finance and Supply Chain Management, and projects involve more modules, entities and integrations. For companies that need its depth, F&O avoids the workarounds a smaller ERP would force, but it shouldn't be chosen for prestige.
How long does an F&O implementation take?
A first rollout typically takes 9 to 18 months. Multi-country projects are usually phased, with a pilot entity going live first and others following every few months.
Can we upgrade from AX 2012 directly?
Your data can be upgraded to F&O, but your code can't be carried over as-is. Overlayered AX customizations must be rewritten as extensions or replaced by standard features. We usually find that a meaningful part of the old custom code isn't needed anymore.
How do you handle data migration?
We use data entities and the data management framework, with repeatable import projects that run in every test cycle. Master data and open balances come over in full, and history depends on your audit and reporting needs. Every mock migration ends with a reconciliation your finance team signs off on.
How do Microsoft's service updates affect our customizations?
Microsoft ships several service updates a year, and you can pause a limited number of them. Because we build with extensions only, updates rarely break custom code, but they still need regression testing. We automate those tests during the project so each update is a routine check.
Do you provide support after go-live?
Yes. After hypercare we offer ongoing functional and technical support, including service update testing, bug fixes, new X++ development and help with period-end close.
