At a glance

Data analytics and Power BI consulting is designing the KPIs, data model and dashboards that show leaders what's happening in the business without exporting to Excel. It's for operations, finance and sales leaders whose Power BI reports disagree with each other. Tag4 Technology Solutions defines the metrics, builds a star-schema model and delivers focused dashboards your analysts can extend.

Most companies already own Power BI. It came with Microsoft 365, someone built a few reports, and now there are 60 of them, half broken and the rest disagreeing with each other. Our data analytics and Power BI consulting is for the operations director, controller or sales VP who wants a small set of dashboards the whole leadership team trusts, plus a way for analysts to answer new questions without filing a ticket.

The usual trouble starts with dashboards built before anyone agreed on what to measure. A report shows 40 visuals because every stakeholder asked for one, so nobody reads it. Another pulls straight from the production ERP, slowing the system during business hours. Under the surface, the data model is one wide flat table with DAX measures patched on top, which makes every new request slower to build than the last. Licensing surprises are common too, like discovering every viewer needs a Pro license because the workspace isn't on the right capacity.

We work in the opposite order. First we sit with the people who will use the report and pin down a handful of KPIs, with written definitions and owners. Then we build a star-schema model with a clear date table and reusable measures, often on top of a warehouse or Fabric lakehouse so refreshes don't touch live systems. Dashboards come last and stay focused: one page that answers the main question, with drill-through for detail. Row-level security, deployment pipelines and a shared semantic model let analysts build their own reports without copying the logic.

A focused set of executive or departmental dashboards on reasonably clean data usually takes 4–8 weeks. A broader rollout with a governed semantic model and training for self-service users runs 2–4 months. If your data needs serious cleanup first, we'll say so up front and scope that as its own piece of work.

What we do

Data Analytics & Power BI services

01

KPI and metric design

Workshops that turn vague goals into a short list of measurable KPIs, each with a definition, a data source, a target and a named owner.

02

Power BI dashboards

Executive, finance, sales and operations dashboards designed for the screen they are read on, including phones for managers on the floor.

03

Semantic model development

Star-schema models with well-written DAX, calculation groups and incremental refresh, so reports stay fast as data grows.

04

Self-service reporting setup

Certified shared datasets, workspace structure and training so analysts build new reports on trusted definitions instead of starting from raw exports.

05

Report cleanup and rescue

Auditing an existing tenant full of duplicate reports, retiring what nobody uses and rebuilding the rest on a shared model.

06

Power BI governance and licensing

Workspace roles, row-level security, deployment pipelines and advice on Pro, Premium Per User or Fabric capacity based on your viewer count.

07

Embedded analytics

Power BI Embedded reports inside your customer portal or SaaS product, with each customer seeing only their own data.

How we work

What you can expect from us

Questions first, visuals last

We ask what decision each page supports before choosing a chart. A dashboard that nobody acts on is decoration.

Model quality over report count

A clean semantic model makes the tenth report as easy as the first. We spend the time there so later requests take hours, not weeks.

Numbers reconciled with finance

Before launch we tie key totals back to the general ledger or source system with your controller, so the first meeting isn't spent disputing figures.

Your analysts get stronger

We pair with your staff during the build and leave behind documentation of every measure, so the reporting skill stays in-house.

Process

From first call to production

  1. Discovery

A few working sessions to pin down goals, users, constraints and what "done" means. You get a written scope and estimate.

  2. Design

Architecture, data model and clickable UI before heavy coding starts, so surprises show up early and cheaply.

  3. Build

Two-week sprints with a demo at the end of each one. You see working software, not status reports.

  4. Launch

Automated tests, staged rollout, monitoring and a rollback plan. Go-live should be boring.

  5. Support

Bug fixes, updates and new features on a monthly plan, or a clean handover to your team.

FAQ

Data Analytics & Power BI: common questions

Do we need a data warehouse before using Power BI?

Not always. For a few sources and modest data volumes, Power BI can connect directly with a well-built model. Once you're combining several systems or running into refresh limits, a warehouse or Fabric lakehouse underneath makes everything faster and easier to maintain.

Which Power BI licenses do we need?

Report creators and viewers each need a Pro or Premium Per User license, unless your content sits on a Fabric capacity of F64 or larger, where free users can view it. For a few dozen users Pro is usually cheapest. We run the numbers for your headcount before recommending anything.

Can Power BI connect to Dynamics 365 and our other systems?

Yes. There are connectors for Dynamics 365, Dataverse, SQL databases, Salesforce, SharePoint and hundreds of other sources. For larger Dynamics data we usually go through Fabric Link or a warehouse to avoid slow refreshes and load on the live system.

Do you also work with Tableau or Looker?

We do, particularly when a company is already committed to one. For Microsoft-centric organizations we generally recommend Power BI on cost and integration grounds, but the modeling principles are the same across tools.

How do we stop people from building their own conflicting reports?

You don't stop them, you give them a better starting point. We publish certified shared datasets with agreed definitions and train analysts to build on those. Reports that pull from uncertified sources become easy to spot and retire.
