At a glance

Software development for startups means building a minimum viable product that real users can sign up for, use and pay for, without spending a year on features nobody has tested. It's for early-stage founders, including those without a technical cofounder. Tag4 Technology Solutions builds MVPs in about 3–5 months, writes code that holds up in investor due diligence and offers fractional CTO support.

The biggest risk for an early startup isn't bad code. It's spending six months building something nobody wants. Good software development for startups starts by cutting scope hard. We'll push back on features that don't test your core assumption, and we'll suggest a no-code tool or a manual process where one will do for now.

As an MVP development company, we aim for a first version real users can sign up for, use and pay for in about 3–5 months. We usually build with React or Next.js, Node or Python, and Postgres on AWS or Azure, because they're well known, easy to hire for and cheap to run at small scale. You own the code and the cloud accounts from day one. That matters more than most founders expect, both for due diligence and for the day you hire your own team.

Investors look past the demo. Technical due diligence will check whether your code is readable, tested and deployed through a real pipeline, whether secrets are sitting in the repo, and whether one person holds all the knowledge. We build with that review in mind: documented architecture, CI/CD, basic automated tests and sensible security from the start. If you don't have a technical cofounder, our fractional CTO support covers the decisions in between, from hiring your first engineers to answering investor questions about your stack.

The problems

What gets in the way

Building too much before launch

Founders often try to ship every feature from the pitch deck. The MVP takes a year, and the market has moved by the time real users see it.

No technical cofounder

Without someone who understands architecture and hiring, it's hard to judge agencies, estimates or candidates. Bad early decisions get expensive later.

Code that fails due diligence

A quick prototype built without tests, documentation or security basics can slow a funding round or force a rewrite right after it closes.

Vendor lock-in

Some agencies keep the code, cloud accounts or domain in their own name. Getting them back can mean a fight when you need them most.

Burning runway on infrastructure

Over-engineered setups with microservices and Kubernetes cost real money each month and slow down a small team that just needs to ship.

What we build

Startups software we deliver

01

MVP development

A scoped first version of your web or mobile product with sign-up, billing and the core workflow, built to launch to real users and learn fast.

02

Product discovery sprints

Two to four weeks of user flows, clickable prototypes and technical planning, so you know what to build and roughly what it costs before committing.

03

Fundraising-ready builds

Clean repos, CI/CD, automated tests, architecture docs and security basics that hold up in investor technical due diligence.

04

Fractional CTO

Part-time technical leadership for architecture calls, vendor choices, hiring your first engineers and joining investor meetings when the questions get technical.

05

AI features and prototypes

LLM-powered features built on OpenAI, Anthropic or open-source models, with cost controls and evaluation so the demo holds up in production.

06

Handoff to your own team

When you hire in-house, we document the system, pair with your new engineers and step back on a schedule that suits you.

FAQ

Startups software: common questions

How much does an MVP cost?

It depends on scope far more than on technology. A focused web MVP with one core workflow usually lands in a lower range than a two-platform product with payments, integrations and an admin panel. We give a fixed-scope estimate after a short discovery phase rather than guessing from a pitch deck.

How long does it take to build an MVP?

Most MVPs take 3–5 months from kickoff to launch. Discovery takes a few weeks, and the rest is build, testing and a soft launch with early users. Keeping scope tight is the biggest factor in hitting that range.

Who owns the code?

You do, from the first commit. The repository, cloud accounts, domains and third-party services are set up in your company's name, and we're added as collaborators. That keeps due diligence simple and means you're never dependent on us.

What does a fractional CTO do for us?

A fractional CTO gives you senior technical judgment a few hours a week instead of a full-time executive salary. That covers architecture and build-versus-buy decisions, reviewing vendor work, interviewing engineers and preparing for technical due diligence. Most startups use it until they can hire a full-time technical lead.

Do you take equity instead of cash?

No. We work on paid engagements so incentives stay clear on both sides. We'll help you shrink scope to fit your budget instead.

Have a project in mind?

Tell us what you are trying to build. An engineer reads every message and replies personally. No sales sequences, no pressure.
